ACTHIV® Professional Development Programs provide immersive, cohort-based learning experiences that help frontline HIV care team members grow throughout their HIV careers.
Whether you’re building foundational HIV expertise or expanding your leadership and practice improvement skills, these programs combine expert faculty, peer learning, mentorship, and practical application to help you strengthen your knowledge, build clinical confidence, and make a greater impact in HIV prevention and care.
Continuing education helps clinicians stay current. ACTHIV® Professional Development Programs are designed to help clinicians grow.
Through longitudinal, interactive learning experiences, participants strengthen clinical confidence, develop practical skills, build lasting professional relationships, and apply new knowledge directly within their own practice settings.
These programs go beyond acquiring knowledge. They help participants build confidence, strengthen professional relationships, and develop the skills needed to grow as HIV clinicians, collaborators, and leaders while becoming part of a national community committed to improving HIV prevention and care.
ACTHIV® currently offers two professional development programs designed to support clinicians at different stages of their HIV careers.
Strengthen your HIV knowledge, build clinical confidence, and learn alongside experienced HIV faculty in a supportive, small-group environment.
Strengthen leadership skills, learn implementation science, and lead meaningful improvements in HIV care within your own practice setting.
The early years of HIV practice can be exciting—and challenging. Not every clinician has access to experienced HIV mentors or structured HIV training.
Learning takes place in a supportive cohort environment where participants are encouraged to ask questions, discuss challenging cases, and learn from experienced HIV clinicians and one another.
Participants explore:
Ideal for specialist and primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates/assistants, nurses, pharmacists, case managers/social workers, and additional members of the HIV care team who are:
“It was wonderful to have a space where I didn’t feel embarrassed about asking ‘stupid’ questions. As a new HIV-treatment provider, I feel much more prepared and confident in my HIV-management skills because of this program.”
Improving HIV care requires more than clinical expertise. It also requires leadership, collaboration, and the ability to translate evidence into sustainable practice change.
ACTHIV® ChangeMakers is a nine-month virtual learning collaborative that helps experienced HIV clinicians strengthen leadership skills, develop implementation science competencies, and lead practice-based improvement initiatives within their own organizations.
Participants learn alongside peers from across the country while receiving mentorship from experienced faculty and applying new skills through an individualized Action Learning Project.
Every participant designs and implements a practice-based improvement initiative within their own clinical setting. Using leadership, implementation science, and quality improvement principles, participants identify a meaningful gap in HIV prevention or care, develop and implement an intervention, evaluate outcomes, and share lessons learned with peers.
Participants are invited to submit their project outcomes as posters to the ACTHIV® Annual Conference, extending the impact of the program across the broader HIV care community.
Participants engage in:
By the end of the program, participants will have strengthened their leadership capabilities while completing a meaningful initiative that improves HIV prevention or care within their own practice environment.
This initiative is ideal for specialist and primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates/assistants, nurses, pharmacists, case managers/social workers, and additional members of the HIV care team who are:
“The ability to lead adaptive change for both teams I lead and my patients is a powerful tool that I’m just beginning to utilize.”
Unlike traditional continuing education, ACTHIV® Professional Development Programs provide longitudinal learning experiences that support meaningful professional growth over time.
Every HIV professional starts somewhere—and every stage of practice brings new opportunities to learn, lead, and grow.
ACTHIV® Professional Development Programs support clinicians and care team members throughout their careers by providing opportunities to build confidence, expand expertise, strengthen leadership, and connect with a community committed to improving HIV care.
Wherever you are in your HIV career, ACTHIV® is here to support your professional journey.
