About ACTHIV Institute

Our Mission

How can today’s evidence help clinicians and care teams provide better HIV care tomorrow?

ACTHIV® Institute’s mission is to strengthen the HIV care workforce of today and tomorrow by providing practical, evidence-based, interprofessional education that equips clinicians and care teams to deliver high-quality HIV prevention and care.

ACTHIV® Institute strengthens the HIV care workforce through practical, evidence-based, interprofessional education. Through our annual conference, year-round online learning, and professional development programs, we support clinicians and care team members providing HIV prevention and care.

As HIV care continues to evolve, ACTHIV® helps meet the needs of clinicians and care team members by delivering education that is practical, current, and designed for real-world practice—supporting both experienced HIV team members and professionals who are building HIV expertise.

A National Educational Home for the Frontline HIV Care Team

ACTHIV® brings together clinicians and care team members from across disciplines and practice settings to learn, collaborate, and stay current with advances in HIV prevention and care.

We believe high-quality HIV care depends on a workforce that is prepared, connected, and supported. Our education is designed not simply to share new information, but to help clinicians translate evidence into practice, strengthen clinical confidence, and improve care in the real world.

Our History

The first ACTHIV® conference was held in 2005 through a collaborative effort involving multiple federal partners committed to advancing HIV care. As HIV treatment and clinical practice rapidly evolved, organizers recognized the need for an ongoing educational community where clinicians could stay current with emerging science, learn from one another, and translate new evidence into practice.
ACTHIV® Institute was established as a nonprofit educational organization in 2006, and its flagship conference became an annual event in 2009 in response to the rapid pace of change in HIV medicine.

Today, ACTHIV® has grown beyond its annual conference to provide year-round online education and professional development programs that support clinicians and care team members across every stage of HIV practice. While our educational offerings continue to evolve, our purpose remains the same: strengthening the HIV care workforce through practical, evidence-based education.

Division of the American Academy of CME, Inc.

Together, we share a commitment to practical, evidence-based learning that strengthens healthcare teams and improves clinical practice.

Our Educational Approach

ACTHIV® education is shaped by the realities of frontline HIV care and grounded in four guiding principles.

1. Practical and Actionable

Our education emphasizes strategies, clinical insights, and tools that clinicians can immediately apply in practice, helping learners translate evidence into better care.

2. Grounded in Frontline Practice

ACTHIV® faculty educators actively care for people living with HIV and understand the clinical decisions, challenges, and opportunities shaping care today.

3. Interprofessional and Team-Based

High-quality HIV care depends on coordinated, multidisciplinary care. ACTHIV® brings together perspectives from across the HIV care team and creates learning environments that reflect how care is delivered in practice.

4. Designed for Real-World Practice

Our goal is to help clinicians and care teams stay current, strengthen clinical confidence, and deliver informed, coordinated, patient-centered HIV prevention and care.

How ACTHIV® Supports the HIV Care Workforce

Year-round accredited learning featuring clinical updates, case discussions, and practical strategies.

Targeted programs that support clinicians building or expanding HIV expertise at different stages of practice

Across every educational activity, ACTHIV® emphasizes practical application, interprofessional collaboration, and education designed for the realities of frontline HIV care.

Volunteer Leadership

ACTHIV® is guided by volunteer leaders who actively care for people living with HIV and are committed to advancing high-quality education. Because ACTHIV® is led by practicing clinicians and educators, its educational priorities remain closely aligned with the realities of clinical practice.
